Our Story

What started as a simple family goal quickly turned into a way of life. After learning about America’s national parks, Ciara and Riley decided they wanted to visit all 63 U.S. National Parks before graduating high school. That first summer, we visited a couple parks that were on our way to visit grandma, and the kids earned their first Junior Ranger badges. It soon grew into a much bigger adventure — a mission to explore as many National Park Service sites, historic landmarks, monuments, battlefields, seashores, and hidden treasures as possible along the way.

As we traveled more, we realized that the greatest classroom wasn’t found inside four walls — it was out on the road together. From hiking desert trails and exploring tide pools to touring historic cities and learning from local cultures, every adventure became an opportunity to learn through real experiences. Our travels blend homeschooling, scouting, history, nature, science, culture, and creativity into one giant hands-on education that our entire family shares together.

Today, Scout and About Kids is more than a travel project — it’s our family story unfolding one adventure at a time. While our original goal of visiting all 63 national parks still drives us forward, our journey has expanded into exploring as many National Park Service sites as possible while also discovering incredible destinations around the world. Whether we’re camping under the stars, exploring another country, earning Junior Ranger badges, or simply finding wonder in a roadside stop, we believe adventure is the best way to learn, grow, and make lifelong memories together.
